Name/History: Truscott opened as a junior high. It is named after Raymond W. "Doc" Truscott who came to Loveland in 1905 to teach at Loveland High School. He then worked as a coach, principal and superintendent of schools from 1912 until 1947, when he retired.
Mission Statement: To provide a quality educational program for all students in attendance, using sound and creative instructional techniques and curriculum.
Quality education - We strive to provide a quality educational program for all students in attendance using sound and creative instructional techniques and curriculum. Truscott uses the Core Knowledge curriculum, which focuses on building strong foundations of knowledge through common learning to create a sound and fair educational experience. The Core Knowledge movement was pioneered by Professor E.D. Hirsch after many years of researching the most effective school systems in the world. Truscott has also implemented strong intervention supports including Reading Recovery, Reading Mastery, Soar to Success, Read Naturally, and Kathy Richardson materials for math intervention as well as various options to extend learning opportunities. We are very proud of our Odyssey of the Mind team qualifying for the OM World competition for two consecutive years!
Behavior - We teach students to follow the Truscott ROARS motto by respecting others and acting responsibly for safety and success. We began working the Positive Behavior Support program in 2008 and are now an official PBS school! Our staff is dedicated to fostering and supporting positive student and adult behavior. We incorporate the use of Teach-Tos, ROAR Tickets, PBS Bingo, and other activities to continue the reinforcement of positive behavioral expectations.
Diversity - Truscott elementary celebrates our diversity through activities that showcase our multiculturalism and welcome all families into our common community. We began a Café con Leche group this year to reach out to even more families in our school community. This group has organized an amazing Pozole dinner and has sponsored a school-wide picnic at the end of the year. Each grade level focuses on different cultures through the Core Knowledge Curriculum, which are carried further in art, music, PE, library and computer classes.
Partnerships - Students, families and staff work in partnership to provide a worldclass educational experience. Some examples of our external partnerships include membership in the Downtown Loveland Association and the Loveland Chamber of Commerce, partnerships with neighboring churches to provide tutoring and mentoring opportunities for our students, and a partnership with the Boys and Girls Club to arrange for after-school opportunities. Poudre Valley Health Systems partners with Truscott through the Healthy Kids Club, wellness planning, and providing healthy snacks and healthy eating education. We added the City of Loveland to our partnership in 2009 for T-n-T Tuesdays. We are extremely appreciative of the incredible opportunities provided to our students and families through these partnerships.
Community - We are proud to be a part of downtown Loveland's rich history and honored to continue to be integral to the central Loveland experience.
