Mountain View High School
Principal: Kevin Aten

Mission Statement: "Teaching effectively, learning successfully, connecting with our community."

Climate and culture - Our center-based, school-to-life design offers students a personalized school environment with emphasis on personal growth and development. Mountain View High School (MVHS) claims 20 competitive sports teams and 31 school activities and clubs. We are one of the first high schools in Colorado to be involved in Positive Behavior Support (PBS) implementation through POWER (Pride-Ownership-Work-Effort-Respect). Integral to our PBS focus are: the advisory program, offering students one more caring adult to help with high school success as well as career and academic planning; Peace Circles; LINK CREW, an eclectic group of students focusing on successful transition for new students; and Cat Pack, a fun-filled opportunity supporting activities and athletic events.

Arts, music, drama, dance - The Loveland area Integrated School of the Arts (LISA) magnet program is housed at MVHS as is the 550-seat, state-of-the-art Sue E. Wall Auditorium, which opened in the fall of 2008. Students in LISA are teamed together in core classes to create a learning community that addresses various learning modalities utilizing the visual and performing arts (music, drama and dance) and infuses the arts and humanities into the core curricula. LISA provides enrichment activities and fosters connections to the local arts community through artsrelated community service projects and artist-in-residence programs.

Pre-engineering - Project Lead the Way (PLTW), a nationally recognized program, offers an in-depth, hands-on, project-based curriculum in technology and pre-engineering for students. PLTW classes are appropriate for a wide range of academic abilities and interests and focus on reality-based problem solving. The design and manufacturing equipment includes a three-dimensional (3-D) "printer," which makes 3-D structures from student-generated designs.

Advanced Placement - MVHS, rated as a "high and stable" high school for student achievement, maintains a school-wide basic skills literacy and numeracy focus through critical thinking. We offer 15 different Advanced Placement (AP) classes from music to government to calculus and a full range of core pre-AP courses are taught at MVHS. Rigor, relevance, and relationships are integral to AP as well as to all classes.

The Freshman Academy - The Freshman Academy academic center at MVHS, which opened in the fall of 2008, was developed to foster a focused, positive transition into high school for incoming 9th grade students. The academy has a dedicated administrator, a counselor, and a core group of teachers to enable early detection of academic and social problems, to provide support for students while they learn to become more independent and accept more responsibility for their schooling, and to help students learn good study skills and habits.
