Name/History: The school is named after James Monroe, the fifth president of the United States.
Mission Statement: The Monroe Elementary School Community is dedicated to providing a safe, child-centered, enriched environment. We are committed to the development of independent, responsible, life-long learners.
Academic focus - Monroe's Positive Academic Support team has remained focused on student achievement. We established a PRIDE program this year to acknowledge and support students in their work habits, efforts and accomplishment as they work toward their personal academic goals. Along with the positive focus, we have established an ongoing Student Intervention Team that works with parents, students, teachers, staff and others to provide instructional interventions and support to help meet students' needs and achieve success.
School climate - Monroe's Positive School Climate team continues to provide activities for staff, parents and students making Monroe a wonderful place to learn. Parents are welcomed and recognized for their dedication and support to their students and our school. Teachers and staff members are also recognized on a regular basis by peers for what they do for students and staff members. Substitutes, visitors and parents comment about the positive, welcoming environment when they come to Monroe.
Positive Behavior Support - Our PBS program makes a continuing impact on behavior and student achievement. We continue to improve the process, looking at data and responding to students by establishing and monitoring behavior plans. Data is continually a focus as we work together on ways to improve the school environment and students' ability to feel safe and respected while at school. Staff members and student leaders produced a playground video which promotes our Mighty Mustang behavior of being Safe, Respectful and Responsible.
Family activities - We continue to provide family involvement through parent nights, PTO, SAAC, and volunteer opportunities monthly. Families enjoy showcase nights at each grade level which include music presentations and PE activities along with showcasing student artwork. We enjoy having families join us three times a year for breakfast and a luncheon. Our Community Liaison provides resources and activities for many of our families as well.
Technology in education - All classroom teachers and many support staff have laptop computers in their classrooms. With the help of our PTO we continue to expand our technology with the purchase of interactive whiteboards for use at each grade level. Teachers have taken and continue to take classes which enable them to use this instructional tool effectively. We are proud of our accomplishments with regards to interactive technology available to staff and students. We also have complete computer labs to serve students as they work with their teacher, receive instruction, participate in assessments and receive interventions on a regular basis.
