Name/History: The school opened in 1980 and is named after Carrie Martin who began first grade at the old Washington School in 1889. After graduating from Loveland High School and attending what is now the University of Northern Colorado, she taught in the area for 50 years. She devoted her life to children.
Mission Statement: Our mission is to provide the best possible education for students in a positive, supportive, child environment thus fostering independent and responsible individuals committed to life long learning.
About our school - Carrie Martin Elementary was named after a local woman who graduated valedictorian of the Class of 1900 from Loveland High School and taught in our schools for 50 years. Like our namesake, all of our staff are highly qualified and experienced and promote excellence through independent learning as well as acceptance of one another.
Developing skills - Our goal is to develop students' skills so that they not only perform well academically and socially but are independent learners in our ever-changing world. The state has ranked us as a "High" achieving school. In an effort to support the needs of the "whole child," we offer many programs for academic and social growth: all-day kindergarten, Gifted and Talented, Reading Recovery, literacy intervention, choir, showcases, field day, a reading incentive program called Roaring for Success, as well as additional fitness classes, character education, Career Day, talent show, etiquette luncheon, and an opportunity to eat lunch with the principal.
Serving special needs - Our GAIN (Group Approach to Individual Needs) program includes students with moderate through severe special educational needs. These students are mainstreamed with support, when appropriate, into regular classrooms. We believe our broad spectrum of students with diverse academic needs develop compassion, empathy and tolerance as they grow into young adults.
Physical activities - We believe a well-exercised body is one that makes greater academic growth. We are fortunate to have a full-time PE teacher as well as the best handicapped accessible playground in the state, funded through the Go Colorado grant program.
Relationships - Our parents are an intricate part of our school. Parents volunteer to help out in the classrooms, read with struggling students, and fill our gym during programs. The PTO enhances our sense of community through many quality activities throughout the year: Dad's Day Breakfast, Mom's Day Breakfast, Grandparents' Day Luncheon, Giving Tree, Santa Craft Fair, Science Fair/Family Supper, and Spring Fling/Carnival.
We believe "Working together we achieve great things for all of our students."
