B.F. Kitchen Elementary
Principal: Kandi Smith

Name/History: The school, which opened in 1969, is named after Benjamin Ford Kitchen, who was the first superintendent for schools in Larimer County and the first principal of Loveland High School.

Mission Statement: Our mission is to promote a positive self-image for each child, to provide opportunities for academic excellence and social development, and to help each child become a responsible individual and citizen.

Health & Wellness Focus – B. F. Kitchen Elementary is a Health & Wellness Focus School committed to academic excellence by promoting high academic standards, increased physical activity, good nutrition, and positive choices for each and every child. We believe there is a positive correlation between health and wellness and academic success. We offer PE every day for every student along with weekly nutrition lessons paired with a fresh fruit or vegetable snack. Swimming lessons are provided, free, to every 4th grade student. We have tremendous support for our health and wellness focus and have formed a positive, long-term relationship with our community partner, Poudre Valley Health Systems.

Academic environment – We believe that every student can achieve at high levels. Our committed and caring staff utilizes a variety of data to provide tailored instruction designed to meet the diverse needs of our students. The learning environment promotes curiosity as well as critical and creative thinking, which fosters a love of learning. In an effort to improve upon their instructional practice and meet the needs of all students, our teachers routinely engage in high-quality professional development in reading, writing, math, technology and science where they learn the most current and research-based best practices in teaching and learning.

Positive Behavior Support – B. F. Kitchen is a student-centered PBS school. We believe in providing a positive learning environment and teaching students about diversity and tolerance through positive behavioral expectations. Our school's Tiger Pride rules are "Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible." Students earn positive rewards when caught showing their Tiger Pride! Parent and community involvement – We believe that the education of a child is achieved through the partnerships between our staff, the students, their families, and our community. We encourage volunteerism in our classrooms, during our extended-day programs, and throughout our school. We value parent and community input and encourage attendance and membership on our school committees.

Extended learning opportunities – B. F. Kitchen provides multiple opportunities for enrichment and community service: WizKids before-school computer club, Odyssey of the Mind (OM), Student Leadership, First Friends, The Giving Tree (our annual food and toy drive), Jump Rope for the Heart, Math Café, Family Math Day, monthly Family Reading nights, and grade-level Fine Arts & Fitness nights, just to name a few. We participate in Schools on the Move and the Safe Routes to School "Tires-n-Tennies" program.
