| Spelling Bee: | Schools have their own school-wide spelling bees. Top finishers from each school are eligible to compete in district spelling bees. Separate district bees are held for middle school and elementary school. Contact your child's school for information on his/her school spelling bee. The district spelling bees took place on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Walt Clark Middle School. Odyssey of the Mind: |
Odyssey of the Mind (OM) is a creative competition for students in K-12. Teams work together to craft unique solutions to questions and scenarios posed by the OM organization. Solutions are shared in a regional competition set for March 19, 2011 at Berthoud High School. Winners of the regional competition go on to the state tournament on April 9 at Mountain View High School, and state winners qualify for the World Competition to be held at the University of Maryland in May. | Math Counts: | A national math competition for middle school students. MathCounts involves students in team and/or individual competitions. The MathCounts school competition was held on February 5, 2011. The regional competition was held at Colorado State Universtiy on February 26, 2011, and the state competition will be held at University of Denver on March 12, 2011. Shadows in the Arts: |
Students in grades 5-12 are nominated for participation by the art teachers at their schools. Students then gather at a local school for a workshop sponsored by a local artist. Students learn about the medium in which their artist specializes. Previous workshops have taught students about watercolors, drawing, sculpting, and more.
