Administered Assessments
Colorado Basic Literacy Act (CBLA)
The Colorado Basic Literacy Act was enacted in 1997 by the Colorado general assembly in order to ensure that by third grade all students have the literacy skills essential for success in school and life. The Act calls for local districts to identify students who are reading below grade level and provide them with necessary reading interventions. For more information visit the CBLA website.
Developmental Reading Assessment, Second Edition (DRA2)
The Developmental Reading Assessment, Second Edition (DRA2) is a set of individually administered, criterion-referenced reading assessments. The DRA2 was designed to help educators determine each student's independent reading level, identify instructional needs, and monitor student progress. The DRA2 includes Benchmark Assessment Books Leveled A-40. Reading behaviors including reading engagement, fluency and comprehension are measured. Thompson School District selected DRA2 for our required CBLA assessment.
Acuity
Acuity is a learning-based assessment program for Math and Reading for grades 3-10. Acuity aligns to Colorado state standards and serves as a predictor of student CSAP performance. Acuity test results help educators make student-focused, data-driven decisions and provides individually targeted instructional materials to help teachers and students achieve learning goals.
Colorado Student Assessment Program (CSAP)
CSAP is a test designed to measure student achievement in relationship to the Colorado Model Content Standards. These standards are expectations specifying what students should know at particular points in their education. As a result CSAP provides a series of snapshots of student achievement in reading, writing, math and science as they move through grades 3-10. For more information visit the Colorado Department of Education's Unit of Student Assessment website.
Educational Planning and Assessment System (EPAS)
ACT's Educational Planning and Assessment System was developed in response to the need for all students to be prepared for high school and the transitions they make after graduation. The EPAS system provides a longitudinal, systematic approach to educational and career planning, assessment, instructional support, and evaluation. The system focuses on the integrated, higher-order thinking skills students develop in grades K-12 that are important for success both during and after high school.
The 8th Grade EXPLORE Test prepares student for high school studies. The10th Grade PLAN Test guides students in planning and preparing for college and the workplace. The ACT Test, administered to 11th Graders, assesses general educational development and ability to complete college-level work, and is the most widely accepted college entrance exam. For more information visit the EPAS website.
